Topics

We invite original papers that advance the interdisciplinary study of fascism—historical, theoretical, and contemporary. Suggested (non-exhaustive) themes:

  • Concepts & Methods
    • Definitions, typologies, and theories of fascism; fascism vs. authoritarianism vs. populism
    • Methodological debates; interdisciplinarity; archives, oral history, digital humanities
    • Political theology, myth, ritual, and sacralized politics
  • History & Comparative Studies
    • Interwar European fascisms (Italy, Germany) and transnational exchanges
    • Non-European and global trajectories (Japan, Latin America, Middle East, South/East Asia, Africa)
    • Legacies, continuities, and post-war reconfigurations
  • Ideology, Power, and Institutions
    • Party structures, paramilitarism, corporatism, labor politics, and the economy
    • Law, constitutional transformations, emergency powers, states of exception
    • Empire, race, ethnicity, nationalism, and biopolitics
  • Culture, Aesthetics, and Media
    • Architecture, urbanism, art, literature, film, music, and spectacle
    • Propaganda, language, rhetoric, disinformation, and memory politics
    • Gender, masculinity, family, and youth movements
  • Contemporary Dynamics
    • Neo-fascism and far-right networks; transnational diffusion and hybrid ideologies
    • Platform ecosystems, algorithms, and online radicalization
    • Counter-movements and antifascism; pedagogy, public history, and policy responses
  • Frontiers & New Directions
    • Comparative ideology and extremism studies; democratic resilience
    • Quantitative/qualitative innovations; case-based and mixed methods
    • Ethical challenges in researching extremist movements

If in doubt, submit—interdisciplinary and boundary-pushing proposals are welcome.
